A SHOWCASE OF TALENT RETURNS TO THE HISTORIC FOX THEATER

Oakland School for the Arts’ 2026 Spring all-school showcase at the Fox Theater is centered on the theme “Sanctuary.” In a time marked by division, uncertainty, and rapid change across the United States and the world at large, this theme invites us to reflect deeply on what it means to create and protect spaces of belonging, refuge, safety, freedom, and shared humanity.

As a community, OSA students and faculty will explore Sanctuary on multiple levels: personally, within our neighborhoods, across our nation, and throughout the world. We ask urgent questions: Where do we feel safe enough to be our full selves? Who is granted sanctuary and refuge—and who is denied it? How do we build spaces rooted in empathy, dignity, and care for all living beings?

In an era dominated by technology and constant noise, many people remain disconnected from one another—longing for understanding, compassion, and genuine human connection. Through art, storytelling, movement, and music, OSA seeks to reclaim sanctuary as an active, intentional practice rather than a passive ideal.

 This Spring all-school showcase affirms OSA’s commitment to being a living sanctuary: a place where young artists can speak truth, imagine possibility, and offer hope. Together, we gather not to escape the challenges of our time, but to meet them—with courage, creativity, and community.
