Cava has been musically directing and coaching artists for the past 22 years.
Her work ranges from small group facilitation to large 100+ group coaching and creating. Through a range of musical modalities and skills paired with intuitive techniques, Cava is able to help artists realize and express their creative potential. A cornerstone of her work is sharing music in community with others - whether at a school site, in a professional setting, at an organization, or at an individually sponsored gathering.
OAKLAND SCHOOL FOR THE ARTS
As a founding faculty member at Oakland School for the Arts , Cava has taught a variety of ensembles and courses to over 2000+ young artists in Oakland, California. She has taught Music Theory, Aural Skills and Ear Training, Composition and Arranging, Concert and Chamber Choir, New Orlean’s Ensemble, Sharp 5 Women’s Ensemble, and Off The Table - a multidisciplinary course modeled after NPR’s Tiny Desk series. Cava has also produced large scale multidisciplinary shows at the Fox Theater Oakland. Her work as a Creative Director and Artistic Director paired with her work as a teacher help her to lead meaningful and engaging courses that meet learners where they most need support.
CO-LLAB CHOIR:
Cava is the director and founder of CO-LLAB Choir, an Oakland-based contemporary vocal ensemble for adults that works with vocal artists and singer songwriters to bring their music to life in a vocal ensemble setting. The ensemble co-arranges and co-writes music together as well as collaborates with professional artists on studio recordings and performances. The choir has performed at venues and festivals such as Outside Lands, the Oakland Coliseum, the Fox Theater, SFJazz, Shoreline Amphitheatre, Yoshis, Bandcamp Oakland, Empire Records, Yerba Buena Gardens Festival, MOAD, Berkeley Rep, the Academy of Sciences, the Empress Theatre in Vallejo, the Paramount, and the Vermont in LA. Additionally, they have collaborated with a host of notable artists such as Asake, LaRussell, Sunday Service Choir, Twista, Montell Jordan, Goapele, Rexx Life Raj, Lyfe Jennings, Oakland Symphony Orchestra, Martin Luther, Kev Choice, Jennifer Johns, Pher, and Bandaloop. CO-LLAB Choir most recently recorded on the Bay Area musical CO-FOUNDERS’ soundtrack and also sang the opening number for Oakland Symphony Orchestra’s playlist for Angela Davis’ visit to the Paramount Theater. The CO-LLAB Choir is currently touring, recording, and performing with the artist LaRussell.
COACHING SESSIONS:
Cava is well versed in a variety of styles of coaching for both aspiring artists, established artists, and novice artists that want to experience the healing properties of sound. Her specialty is musical communication through emotion, vibration, dynamic storytelling, and intentionality of delivery. Cava’s musical ear and attention to detail paired with her compassion and empathy for the human beings creating art make her coaching style extremely unique. Cava is able to use sound as a tool for harmonizing and connecting ensembles together to create heart coherence and healing through music.
